Meaning of Maa Baglamukhi
The name Baglamukhi is formed from two words: “Bagla” and “Mukhi.” “Bagla” is derived from “Wagla,” meaning bridle. The name itself consists of three letters: VA, GA, and LA. The letter ‘VA‘ represents Varuni, ‘GA‘ symbolizes Siddhida, and ‘LA‘ stands for earth. Due to her divine beauty and immense spiritual power, the Goddess is known as Baglamukhi.
Maa Baglamukhi has 108 names and is popularly known as Pitambara in North India, meaning “the goddess associated with the yellow or golden color.” It is believed that Baglamukhi Devi manifested in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat, emerging from turmeric-colored water. Because of this yellow hue, she is also called Pitambara Devi.
One of the most sacred places dedicated to her is the Maa Baglamukhi Temple Nalkheda, where devotees seek her blessings for protection, success, and victory.
According to one belief, Maa Baglamukhi’s appearance is linked to Lord Vishnu, making her associated with sattva qualities and the Vaishnava sect. However, in some aspects, she is also connected to tamasic qualities.
Maa Baglamukhi is one of the ten Mahavidyas and is revered as Pitambara Maa Baglamukhi Ashtamahavidya. Worshipping her brings both Riddhis (wealth, prosperity, and good fortune) and Siddhis (spiritual growth and supernatural powers).
